Corralejo is the largest and most cosmopolitan of the tourist resorts on the island, as it is popular with visitors from all over Europe and beyond. Thankfully the town retains its charm and character, still very much in evidence from its days as a small fishing village.

The advent of tourism over the last 25 years or so has meant that Corralejo has blossomed and grown to a multicultural tourist centre, but with a large residential population from the UK, Spain, Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, North Africa, South America and more.

The local council has been very successful in ensuring that the Canarian atmosphere in the town has been retained, with a ban on high-rise buildings, the restoration of the original windmills and the support for the countless Canarian bars and restaurants that are dotted around the back streets of the old town.

There truly is something in Corralejo for everyone. The beaches in the town itself are fairly small, but perfect for a relaxing family holiday. There are bars and restaurants from all over the world, from traditional Canarian and Spanish tapas, to Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants.

The walk around the sea front is beautiful. You can sit with a jug of sangria and watch the world go by, or you can walk round to the pretty marina to watch the boats. There are also regular ferries from Corralejo to Lanzarote, which is only a short distance away.

There are plenty of bars with live music in the evenings, and if you are still feeling energetic, then there is also plenty of later night-life available!

Corralejo also has a brand new Water Park, with ten-pin bowling, a golf driving range and even bingo! Construction of an 18-hole golf course has begun, so golfing holidays will be an option in a couple more years.

If your thing is water sports then you couldn’t have come to a better place. The beaches just outside Corralejo are spectacular, the whole area having been designated a Natural Park since October 1982.

There are a number of centres for surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and bodyboarding with equipment hire and instructors available for all levels from beginners upwards. The are also many scuba diving schools in the town, which again cater for every level of experience, with professionally qualified dive instructors and some stunning dive sites located around the island.

If you prefer to just relax and get some sun, you can enjoy the white sand beaches, and if you are not shy, you can get your all-over tan on the numerous naturist areas.
