Fuerteventura is a very popular holiday destination, with everything that you could wish for to ensure that you have a perfect holiday. If you do have a free day, however, many people do not realise just how close you are to the other popular holiday island of Lanzarote, and the regular ferry service from the harbour in Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura means that you get the chance to experience two of the main Canary islands instead of just the one. With a boat leaving almost every hour, you can enjoy the short trip between the islands before heading off to sample the delights of Lanzarote; whether that be the live Volcano of Timanfaya, the Tropical Park or the excellent shopping to be found in the capital of Arrecife or the main tourist resort of Puerto del Carmen.
The ferry has a bar/cafeteria, but the journey is so short that you will barely have the time to suck the froth off your coffee! The Fred Olsen Line also provides a free bus from the Lanzarote harbour of Playa Blanca. It travels to the resort of Puerto del Carmen in around 25 minutes, stopping to drop off again at the departure terminal of Lanzarote airport, then finally on to Arrecife (45 minutes in total). You can also return for your ferry journey back to Fuerteventura on the free coach provided from all of these locations. The second ferry is the Naviera Armas, called the 'Volcan de Tindaya', which makes 7 daily crossings each way, each one being of 25 minutes duration. You can travel on foot or by car on this boat too, and you may even have time to eat a donut with your coffee on this voyage! This ferry line does not provide transport from the harbour in Lanzarote, so bear this in mind if you are travelling on foot! There is, however, plenty to see in Playa Blanca, with many pretty bars and restaurants, shops and a nice sand beach if the sun is shining. You must purchase your ticket before you are ready to board the ferry. There are offices for both companies, located in the harbour in both Corralejo, Fuerteventura and Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
